The Honest Answer — It Depends on 5 Factors
There is no single price for a blow mould. A simple 500ml water bottle mould costs very differently from a 20-litre jerry can mould or an 8-cavity pharma mould. Here are the 5 key factors that determine your mould price:
Number of Cavities
A single-cavity mould is the cheapest. Each additional cavity adds significant cost — but also multiplies your production output. 1-cavity = lowest cost; 8-cavity = highest cost but highest output per cycle.
Container Size & Complexity
Larger containers need more material and more machining time. A 30ml pharma mould costs less than a 2-litre CSD mould. Complex shapes with grip panels, embossing, or unique geometry add cost vs simple round bottles.
Mould Material Grade
Aluminium alloy moulds (used for PET/lower volumes) are cheaper than P20 tool steel moulds (used for HDPE/high volumes). BeCu inserts for rapid heat dissipation add premium cost but improve cycle times significantly.
Surface Finish Requirement
Standard production finish is cheaper. Mirror/optical finish (required for pharma and premium personal care) requires additional polishing steps and adds to cost. Textured finishes for grip panels also add cost.
Machine Brand & Configuration
Moulds for European machines (Sidel, Krones) sometimes require more precise configurations than moulds for Chinese machines. HDPE extrusion moulds with complex cooling layouts cost more than simpler configurations.

How to Get the Best Value?
Don't choose only on price. The cheapest mould often costs more in the long run — through rejected production, premature wear, and downtime. The right question is: what is the cost per million bottles produced over the mould's lifetime?
A well-made mould from Ultra Mould that lasts 3–5 million cycles with zero downtime delivers far better value than a cheap mould that fails at 500,000 cycles and needs reconditioning or replacement.
